Candida Höfer

Born, 1944 in Eberswalde, Germany

From the archived Documenta 11 website : www.documenta12.de//archiv/d11/data/english/index.html

“Since the end of the 1960s, Candida Hàfer’s photography has focused on social and cultural environments. In the 1980s, Hàfer began photographing interiors, most of which are empty of people. Here, her topic is architecture that is accessible to the public”—libraries, museums, universities, or lobbies”—buildings which have always typified gathering spaces that are both functional and representative at the same time.”
