Jef Geys

Born, 1935 in Léopoldsburg, Belgium

From the archived Documenta 11 website : www.documenta12.de//archiv/d11/data/english/index.html

“Jef Geys’ artistic works cannot be separated from his biography; he began keeping an index of his own work when he was thirteen years old. Geys constantly uses elements of both high and subcultures, works in all media, and deals with social, political, and economic themes. Having taught art for thirty years, the artist refers to some fundamentals such as theories of form, color, and proportion, as well as to aspects of Pop, Fluxus, and Concept art. His paintings, photographs, sculptures, and installations are often conceived as part of a serialized, unfinished process of work.”
