For years before his death, London’s October Gallery emerged as a committed advocate for Aubrey Williams’ work. This advocacy and commitment has continued in the decades following the Guyana-born artist’s death in 1990. Typical in this regard was the exhibition Aubrey Williams: Major Works, held at October Gallery, 7 December 2006 - 10 February 2007.

Extract from this press release, as follows’ “Williams’ paintings have always resisted clasification, evolving through many distinct phases over the course of his career. From immaculately accomplished depictions of the birds of Guyana, to explosive, vibrant abstracts, Williams drew influence from abstract expressionism, from Olmec, Maya, and Warrau imagery, from science fiction, from the symphonies and quartets of Russioan composer Shostakovich, and from artists like Jackson Pollock, Arshile Gorky, Diego Rivera, Yves Klien and Rufino Tamayo. This exhibition draws together an exclusive selection of canvases from the mid 50s to the late 80s, representing highlights from every stage in the remarkable career of this much-loved artist.”
