Chris Boot

Born, 1960 in Telford

Together with Anna Harding, Chris Boot was responsible for the Camerawork exhibition, Bodies of evidence. It was also an exhibition to which he submitted work. “The exhibition addresses, through photographs and stories, the impact of HIV on individuals and society. Six photographic projects have been commissioned to address the impact (sic) HIV infection. The contributions approach this issue from a number of different perspectives, using practices ranging from documentary photography to constructed images. All the contributions are linked by stories expressing direct personal experiences related to HIV and AIDS. The exhibition is a collaboration between Camerawork and The Photo Co-op, and has been devised in consulation with individuals from the Health Education Authority, the Terence Higgins Trust, Frontliners and Body Positive. The exhibition is supported by grants from the Health Education Authority and the Arts Council of Great Britain.” Information from the exhibition press release. ‘Contributions from Frank Ainsworth, Anna Arnone, Rotimi Fani-Kayode and Alex Hirst, John Cole, Crispin Hughes and Chris Boot, and Arabella Plouviez. Exhibition toured to Untitled, Sheffield (3/6/89 - 8/7/89, Stills, Edinburgh (9/9/89 - 14/10/89) “and to other venues around Britain” (Press Release).

Working with Crispin Hughes, as Crispin Hughes & Chris Boot, Boot contributed work to The Invisible City, an exhibition that took place at The Photographers’ Gallery, in late 1990. It featured contributions by Alison Marchant, Sonia Boyce, Lea Andrews, Simon Crump, and Crispin Hughes & Chris Boot. It was the second London Project exhibition, and was referred to as London Project II. The exhibition was curated by David Chandler.
