Original clipping from magazine/The Face/p.40/no date(circa 1987)/section called “Intro“/written about the Black Audio Film Collective

Title: Reel Life
Author: Leslie Goffe
Article features a photograph by Chris George with the following caption: “John Akomfrah and Lina Gopaul of the young, gifted, Black Audio Film Collective.”

From the article: “When the Black Audio Film Collective of Hackney won the British Film Instsute’s coveted John Grierson Award for documentary film-making for their Handsworth Songs their success was met with great surprise. Perhaps because the film’s director, John Akomfrah (29) is African, and its producer Lina Gopaul (28) is of Asian descent. Perhaps because they beat out The South Bank Show, Everyman, Forty Minutes and other luminaries. Perhaps because apart from a tape/slide production and one 16mm film, this was the first full-length feature the collective had made.”
