Solo show at ROLLO Contemporary Art. 2009
Date: 11 September, 2009 until 9 October, 2009
Organiser: ROLLO Contemporary Art
From the brochure accompanying the exhibition: “Zippers is the new series of work by Frank Bowling. Devised in 2009, these paintings exude life and vibrancy in their citric colours and energetic application of paint. As the name suggests, the straight yet jagged line running through the centre of each painting is the key trait in this latest series of paintings. The name also references Barnett Newman - an artist Bowling has sometimes alluded to in his titles, such as Who’s Afraid of Barney Newman, 1968.
Bowling himself, in the same brochure, writes “My work is indebted to and emerges (sic) the first generation of American Abstract Expressionist painters: Barney Newman, pollock, Rothko, and Clifford Still…”
Zippers took place at ROLLO Contemporary Art, 11 September - 9 October 2009, with a Private View on 10 September.
