Title: HYSTERIA by Maud Sulter, A Brewery Arts Centre Touring Exhibition. The exhibition is open to the public from Monday 7 October to Saturday 2 November from 10am to 10pm.

From the press release: “The images tell the story of Hysteria, a nineteenth century blackwoman artist who travelled to Europe from the Americas to seek fame and fortune. The tableux present moments in her travels and to use contemporary twentieth century icons to suggest a continuum from past through present to future of the tenacity of blackwomans’ creativity. Hysteria is the first major installation at the Brewery Arts Centre by a blackwoman artist and creates a catalyst for reviewing art history with regard to the issues of representation of women; both in art and as artists.” The contact name given for further information: Michael Watt, Film & Photography Organiser.
