Préfète Duffaut

Born, 1923 in Jacmel

The following biographical sketch appeared in the catalogue Artists of the Western Hemisphere | Art of Haiti and Jamaica, Art Gallery, Center for Inter-American Relations, 600 Park Avenue, New York, N.Y., October 10 - 27, 1968

“A poet and a mystic posssessing a powerful and wonderful imaginative sense. Duffault’s work is - perhaps more than that of any other Haitian primitive painter - the product of his dreams. His imaginary cities and boat-filled harbors are strange and not of this world, yet possessing infinite charm. He is represented by two murals in the Episcopal Cathedral in Port-au-Prince.”
