Brief, chatty feature on Yinka Shonibare, that appeared on page 5 of the Independent newspaper’s llistings magagine, Radar, 18 August 2012. A number of similar pieces on Shonibare had appeared in the press over a number of years, serving to further confirm Shonibare’s status as a celebrity artist. Based on an interview by Kate Wilson, the piece was essentially four responses to the prompts of Visual Arts, Books, Film, and finally, Theatre and Opera. Under Theatre and Opera, Shonibare offered, “A piece of theatre that blew my mind was Ragtime at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park. it’s a musical directed by Timothy Sheader and set in the American south. I occasionally go to the opera. I tend to like the sentimental ones and the weepy ones, unfortunately.”

At the foot of the piece, Yinka Shonibare curates Deloitte Ignite’s Africa Weekend at the Royal Opera House, London, WC2 (www.roh.org.uk) 31 August to 2 September
